There were 27 entries in Modified which was great amount, and I think that this category is going to be more and more popular.

Friday:
As I heard later, some of the drivers came to Blansko on Tuesday! So they spent 3 days testing and preparing their cars for the event. Our trip started early Friday morning with 550km in front of us. We arrived at 0800h to a beautiful track and weather. Friday was only the practice day, but as we know the National Championship is the primary race of the summer season, so most of the drivers which participated came later in the day to do some practice.

We made a lot of laps and spent the whole day practicing and trying to get the best set-up for the race. But it was really hard. The high temperature at the track, sugar water, and official tires for the event were not the best combination for the most drivers, and we had a lot of problems with understeering during the whole weekend. We made a lot of changes on the car and tried 3 bodyshells. But the worst thing was we didn’t feel any changes on the track! The good thing was that we did a lot of laps as the practice for the next day. As we expected, later in the evening the rain came down hard so we knew that the conditions would change again. We put both cars back to the basic set-up for the next day’s racing.

Saturday:
When we arrived at the track it was still wet, and when the sun was shining the organizers applied the sugar water to the track again. This meant that track conditions did not change a lot from the previous day. But as I put the basic set-up on my car, the car was better than the day before! We also found that the oldest tires worked the best. We tried a new set on Sunday but they didn’t as work well. So we ran only one set of tires for the whole weekend.

We had a 2 hours of free practice and then 2 rounds of timed practice in which the 3 best consecutive laps counted. I made the best 3 laps in 0:36.315, only 0.1sec ahead of 2nd and 3rd so we knew that it was going to be very close racing… and it was!

Qualification:
The car worked pretty well but it still didn’t have enough steering. I won the first and second qualifications but always by only 1-2sec ahead of 2nd place Marek Cerny who was very fast all the weekend. In the third qualification I made a few mistakes and I finished 2nd behind Marek. In fourth and fifth qualifications I was fast and I again won both by only 1-2sec ahead of Marek. So after winning 4 of the 5 qualifications, I secured TQ for the Sunday finals.

Sunday:
The sun was shining and the track temperature was very high. Although Marek won only one qualification, I knew that it would be very hard to keep him behind me because he made that qualification the fastest!

We had one practice in final groups before the finals, which I won and the car worked very good so I was looking forward to the finals!

Final 1:
I started on the pole and I was fast right from the start with a 2-3sec lead during the whole final. I came across the line with a 5sec lead so it wasn’t as dramatic as I expected. Maybe the reason was a battle between 2nd place Marek Cerny and 3rd place Michal Bok during which I got into a comfortable lead.
The first 5 drivers had almost the same fastest lap.

Final 2:
Again I was fast and I got into a small lead ahead of 2nd and 3rd who had a battle as in the previous final. So I also won the second final and I defended the title of Czech Champion in both my classes from the winter!

Final 3:
I tried a few things on my set-up and it didn’t work. After the start I was very slow and the guys in 2nd, 3rd and 4th easily got in front of me but then there was a crash between 2nd and 3rd so I got back into 2nd place and that’s how I finished. But it didn’t matter!

Stock:
Just quick report… Only 8 drivers participated in the race. My car worked very well and I won all five qualifying rounds and the first and second finals (I did not participate in the third final) so I won the Czech Championship in Stock category. Radek Flek was 2nd and Matej Rehak (XRAY) finished in 3rd.

After the race was a prize giving ceremony and nice prizes for all drivers. Even though not very many drivers showed up, we were very happy with the race not only because of the titles of Czech Champions for XRAY but also for the great atmosphere and very nice facility in Blansko. So a big ‶thank you※ goes out to the RC Club Blansko. We are all looking forward to the Winter Championship in Hrotovice hall ( EC,ETS ) in the winter.
